International Day of
Connection

Campaign

Join the Movement to Overcome Social Isolation

In a world where social isolation and the loneliness epidemic are increasingly recognized as critical threats to our mental health, we propose:

February 1st as the International Day of Connection and overcome loneliness.

This day aims to counteract the silent yet profound effects of loneliness that impact millions globally, undermining both individual and community health.

Why February 1st?

Understanding the Impact of Loneliness

Loneliness is more than a personal issue; it’s a public health crisis. Comparable in impact to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, loneliness significantly reduces lifespan and quality of life while increasing the risk of a range of physical and psychological conditions. It affects all age groups and slices through all societal barriers.

Research Highlights:

Mental Health Risks

Persistent loneliness can lead to depression, anxiety, and increased stress levels.

Physical Health Decline

The condition is linked with cardiovascular health risks, sleep disorders, and more.

Our Vision for February 1st

By designating February 1st as the International Day of Connection, we aim to:

  • Encourage Community Participation: Engage in community events that foster personal interactions. We encourage everyone to step outside, greet a stranger, or check in on neighbours and friends.

  • Promote a Digital Detox: Dedicate this day to minimizing digital distractions. Less screen time means more opportunity for meaningful face-to-face interactions.

  • Foster New Friendships: Utilize simple tools like a pink name sticker to break the ice and encourage introductions, making it easier for people to connect and form lasting friendships.

Call to Action: Support the Recognition of This Day

We urge governments and communities around the world to officially recognize February 1st as the International Day of Connection and Beating Loneliness. Such recognition will underline the importance of community, the value of direct human contact, and the profound joy that comes from genuine, real-world connections.
